History
History
The Conservative Baptist Association was founded in 1943 in the United States and sent missionaries to Hong Kong in 1963. Yan Lam Church was established in 1990–91 to serve the Fo Tan community in Sha Tin.
The Founding of the Conservative Baptist Association
In 1943, a group of Baptist pastors and believers who held firmly to the inerrancy of Scripture established the Conservative Baptist Foreign Mission Society (CBFMS) in Oregon, USA. Today, CBFMS is involved in over 800 ministries and sends missionaries to serve in 58 different countries.
Missions to Hong Kong
In March 1963, Rev. Firth and his family arrived in Hong Kong from the United States as the advance team of the Conservative Baptist mission. That September, they opened a Gospel Hall in San Po Kong and the Man Mei Primary School in Wong Tai Sin. The mission went on to establish churches and schools across Hong Kong, including Chung Tao Church (1964), Wing Kei Church (1966), and Ming Kei Church (1968). Medical services began in 1964 with mobile clinics, serving up to 100,000 residents per year.
The Establishment of Yan Lam Church
In July 1990, the mission opened the Wo Che Bradbury Reading Centre at Chi Wo House in Wo Che Estate, Sha Tin. In April 1991, with the support of Yan Wo Church, regular gatherings began under the ministry of Mr. Chan Cheuk Yuen, and Yan Lam Church was officially established. Starting from a small reading centre in Wo Che Estate, the church has witnessed over thirty years of God's abundant grace.
Present Ministry
Today, Yan Lam Church operates five ministry departments (Administration, Worship, Evangelism, Education, and Fellowship), meeting at Room 402, Jubilee Court, Fo Tan. The Wo Che Bradbury Reading Centre (Rooms 425-432, Chi Wo House) continues to serve the community. Under the leadership of Senior Pastor Rev. Pang Hei Ching, the church's 2025 theme is "Renewed Worship, Wholehearted Devotion."
